Peanut Envy

A streamer, tied #2–6, carried year round. It is tied against 1 named insect in this book, and stands in when nothing is hatching — all year. Kelly Galloup.

A jointed streamer from Kelly Galloup, built on two hooks in sizes 2–6 with olive 6/0 thread. The rear section carries marabou, palmered schlappen and rubber legs; the two halves are linked by wire and beads; the front is schlappen with a marabou collar behind a spun deer-hair head clipped to shape. All of that adds up to a lot of water push, which is the point of the fly. It imitates the sculpin, Cottus spp., a baitfish present all year in water from 33 to 72 degrees, and it also goes on when there is no hatch at all and the water has to be searched. It is fished swung and jerked along wood and undercut banks, and it earns its keep in the hour either side of dark. Carried all season, for trout and smallmouth bass.

What it imitates

Each of these is the same hatch record the app's own panel reads, so a pattern recommended on a river card in the app is recommended for one of the insects below.

It is also tagged for no hatch at all — a searching pattern.

Tying recipe

In tying order. This dressing is the standard one — these patterns have been in the publicrecord for decades; Kelly Galloup. — and materials substitute freely: the proportions and the silhouette are the pattern, not the brand of dubbing.

Rivers it fishes well
